In a small Rhode Island town, a big issue about the First Amendment – The Boston Globe
It’s all about the benjamins, baby.
It wasn’t terribly long ago that GoLocalProv made some headlines when city councilor(s) reviewed them getting a nice chunk of change from Providence for doing this same service. That one was especially ridiculous since GoLocalProv has no physical edition and the notices were buried on their website.
One of the city councilors questioned the deal because GLP was getting over 30 grand a year from the city to copy and paste shit onto their website and leave it buried there and Josh Fenton went nuts with aggressive negative coverage on him, just throwing fistfuls of spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks.
The slow death and consolidation of local media like town level newspapers is a sad thing but the idea that a paper should need to be propped up with revenue like this is insane in 2023.
